Ingredients

  • 6 medium honey sweet potatoes
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 2 Tbsp corn syrup (or rice syrup)
  • 3 Tbsp cooking oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

The secret to sweetness! Prepare your honey sweet potatoes (about 6 medium ones). Wash them thoroughly and cut them into bite-sized pieces. Don’t worry if they’re not perfectly shaped! (Tip: Cutting them too small might cause them to break apart, so aim for a good, manageable size.)

Step 1

Step 2

Heat 3 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the cut sweet potatoes. Instead of deep-frying, we’ll fry them gently until golden brown and slightly crispy on the outside. (Tip: If you prefer to use less oil or avoid splattering, cover the pan with a lid and cook over low heat. This allows the sweet potatoes to cook through evenly and become tender while using minimal oil. Stir them occasionally.)

Step 2

Step 3

Once the sweet potatoes are lightly browned, add 2 tablespoons of sugar and 2 tablespoons of corn syrup to the pan. It’s important to let the sugar melt without stirring at this stage. Cook over low heat until the sugar dissolves slowly, forming a syrup.

Step 3

Step 4

When the syrup begins to bubble, add the fried sweet potatoes. Quickly toss and mix them to ensure the syrup evenly coats each piece. (Tip: Don’t overcook the syrup, as it can burn or harden. Once the sweet potatoes are well-coated, remove the pan from the heat immediately.)

Step 4

Step 5

Voila! Your delicious and sweet honey sweet potato Matang is ready. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside – a beloved snack for all ages. See, it’s easier than you thought!
