Sweet Homemade Condensed Milk
Make Condensed Milk with Just Milk and Sugar
Do store-bought condensed milk containers seem too large? That’s when I like to make my own! All you need is milk and sugar. Would you like to make it together?
Ingredients
- 1 Liter Milk
- 200g Sugar
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Pour 1 liter of milk into a wide saucepan and add 200g of sugar. Give it a gentle stir to ensure the sugar doesn’t clump.
Step 2
Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring it to a simmer. Before it boils, stir occasionally with a spatula to prevent the sugar from sticking to the bottom. Once it starts simmering, reduce the heat to low-medium and let it gently reduce. It’s important to stir every 10-15 minutes to prevent sticking. Turn off the heat when a thin film forms on the surface, or when the mixture becomes slightly thick when you lift it with a ladle.
Step 3
Allow the finished condensed milk to cool completely, either in the saucepan or after transferring it to another container. Putting it directly into the refrigerator while still hot can affect its quality due to rapid temperature changes.
Step 4
Once completely cooled, store the homemade condensed milk in a clean, airtight container in the refrigerator. This homemade condensed milk is perfect for spreading on toast, adding to coffee, tea, or various desserts. It will stay fresh for about 1-2 weeks.
