As a big coffee lover, I often enjoy making coffee at home. Today, I’ve made a simple brown sugar latte using brown sugar. I’ll also share how to make homemade brown sugar syrup. This recipe allows you to enjoy the rich, caramel-like sweetness of brown sugar perfectly blended with coffee and milk, right in your own kitchen.

Aromatic Brown Sugar Syrup

  • 4 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 100ml water
  • 1 Tbsp honey

Creamy Latte

  • 1 shot espresso (approx. 30ml)
  • 180ml milk

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

To make the aromatic brown sugar syrup, add 4 tablespoons of brown sugar and 1 tablespoon of honey to a saucepan. Honey adds gloss and depth to the syrup.

Pour in 100ml of water. Gently tilt or swirl the saucepan to ensure the brown sugar is evenly moistened by the water. It’s important not to stir or mix the syrup with a spoon at this stage; this prevents sugar crystallization and helps create a smooth syrup.

Once the syrup begins to bubble, reduce the heat to medium. Let it boil for a full turn, then immediately turn off the heat. Boiling for too long can cause the syrup to harden, so timing it right when it boils up is crucial. Let the syrup cool slightly before use. It will thicken further as it cools.

Now, extract 1 shot of espresso for your latte. If you don’t have an espresso machine, you can use strongly brewed instant coffee. Adjust the amount of coffee to your preference.

Drizzle the prepared brown sugar syrup down the inside walls of your serving cup. Let the syrup flow down the sides for a beautiful, artistic presentation. You can adjust the amount of syrup to your liking.

Gently pour about 180ml of cold or warm milk into the cup, over the brown sugar syrup decoration. The speed and amount of milk poured can create beautiful layers with the syrup.

Finally, carefully pour the extracted aromatic espresso shot over the milk. Watching the coffee stream down between the milk and brown sugar syrup is truly appealing.
