Key Ingredients
- 2 medium sweet potatoes
- 1/4 can Spam
- 1 packet (approx. 150g) shredded pizza cheese
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 2 Tbsp ketchup
- 3 Tbsp milk
- 1 Tbsp honey
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Wash the sweet potatoes thoroughly, peel them, and steam for 20-25 minutes until they are very tender. They are ready when a fork can easily pierce them. (Tip: Using pre-steamed or roasted sweet potatoes makes this recipe even quicker!)
Step 2
Finely dice the onion. Cut the Spam into small, bite-sized cubes.
Step 3
Heat 1 Tbsp of olive oil in a frying pan over low heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
Step 4
Once the garlic is aromatic, add the diced onion and Spam. Sauté over medium heat until the onion becomes translucent. Then, stir in the ketchup and cook for another 1-2 minutes until well combined. This completes the sauce. (Tip: You can enhance the flavor by using store-bought tomato pasta sauce!)
Step 5
While the steamed sweet potatoes are still warm, place them in a bowl and mash them thoroughly with a fork or a potato masher until smooth. Aim for a lump-free texture.
Step 6
Add the milk (3 Tbsp) and honey (1 Tbsp) to the mashed sweet potatoes. Mix well to create a smooth sweet potato puree. Adding milk and honey will result in a creamier, richer, and sweeter puree. (Tip: You can adjust the amount of honey to your preference or omit it entirely for less sweetness.)
Step 7
Spoon the sweet potato puree generously into an oven-safe gratin dish or any heatproof container. Spread it out evenly. Then, layer the prepared Spam and onion sauce on top.
Step 8
Finally, sprinkle a generous amount of pizza cheese over the sauce. Bake in a preheated air fryer at 180℃ (350°F) for 6-8 minutes, or until the cheese is golden brown and bubbly. Your delicious spoonable sweet potato gratin is ready! (Tip: If using a conventional oven, preheat to 200℃ (400°F) and bake for 10-12 minutes.)
