Sweet & Cool Summer Delight: How to Make Watermelon Milk Bingsu
Easy Homemade Watermelon Milk Bingsu Recipe
When the sweltering summer heat hits, what’s the first dessert that comes to mind? For many, it’s Bingsu! While we used to have just one type, Patbingsu, the variety available today is astonishing. After a phase of loving Injeolmi Bingsu, I’ve decided to create a refreshing Watermelon Milk Bingsu using watermelon, a quintessential summer fruit. This recipe is designed to be simple, bringing a delightful treat right to your kitchen. Let’s get started with the ingredients!
Bingsu Ingredients- 1/4 Watermelon
- 500ml Milk
- 2-3 Tbsp Condensed Milk
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the base for our Bingsu: the milk ice. Pour 500ml of milk into a resealable bag or container. Add 2 tablespoons of condensed milk and mix well. Place this in the freezer until completely frozen. Including condensed milk in the freezing process not only adds a lovely sweetness but also contributes to a creamier, smoother texture compared to just frozen milk. If you prefer it sweeter, you can add about 50g of sugar, but the condensed milk alone provides a delightful taste. Stirring the mixture once while it’s freezing can help ensure an even texture.
Step 2
Once the milk mixture is solidly frozen, take it out of the freezer. Using a mallet, the back of a spoon, or an ice cream scooper, gently break up the frozen milk into fine, fluffy ice shavings, resembling shaved ice. This step is crucial for achieving that delicate, melt-in-your-mouth texture. If the milk is too hard to break, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften slightly before proceeding.
Step 3
Now, let’s prepare the fresh watermelon. Cut the ripe watermelon in half and use a melon baller or a small round spoon to scoop out spherical pieces of watermelon flesh. Creating these neat spheres makes the Bingsu look more appealing and easier to eat. You can set aside any remaining watermelon flesh for other uses.
Step 4
Get your serving bowl or cup ready. Arrange the scooped watermelon balls along the inner edge of the bowl, creating a decorative border. Then, place the remaining scooped watermelon pieces at the bottom of the bowl. This ensures you get a burst of fresh watermelon flavor with every spoonful.
Step 5
Next, generously scoop the finely shaved milk ice into the prepared bowl, creating a fluffy mound. The key here is to pile it high for a bountiful presentation. Arrange the prepared watermelon spheres beautifully on top of the milk ice. This recipe is portioned for a single serving, so focus on making it look attractive in a cup or small bowl.
Step 6
Finally, drizzle the condensed milk over the Bingsu in a zigzag pattern. The rich, creamy sweetness of condensed milk is essential for elevating the flavor of Bingsu. Feel free to adjust the amount to your personal preference. For an even more indulgent treat, consider adding red bean paste, rice cakes, or other fruits.
Step 7
And there you have it – a refreshingly cool Watermelon Milk Bingsu! The delightful combination of smooth milk ice, sweet watermelon, and creamy condensed milk is a perfect antidote to the summer heat. Why not escape the heat for a moment with this delicious and simple dessert? Anyone can create this wonderful Bingsu with just a few ingredients and easy steps.
