Ingredients
  • 1/4 Onion
  • A little Bok Choy stem
  • 1 handful Tteokguk rice cakes
  • 1 Apple
  • A little stir-fried beef (optional)
  • 100g Mozzarella cheese
  • 1 pinch Salt

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, finely mince the onion. Finely mincing the onion will result in a softer texture and allow it to meld better with the other ingredients.

Step 2

Heat a pan with perilla oil and begin by stir-frying the minced onion. It’s best to cook it over medium-low heat until the onion becomes translucent and releases its sweet aroma.

Step 3

Once the onions are nicely sautéed, add the prepared bok choy stems and stir-fry briefly until they are slightly wilted. Season lightly with a pinch of salt to enhance the natural flavors of the ingredients. Let the cooked vegetables cool down slightly.

Step 4

Briefly soak the tteokguk rice cakes in cold water to soften them, then pan-fry them in perilla oil until lightly golden on both sides. This step will make the rice cakes chewier and add a nutty flavor.

Step 5

Since we’ll be using the apple with its peel, wash it thoroughly under running water using baking soda to ensure it’s perfectly clean. This way, you can also benefit from the nutrients in the peel.

Step 6

Cut the cleaned apple in half. Finely chop one half and thinly slice the other half. The chopped apple will add texture, while the slices will create a beautiful presentation.

Step 7

Lightly coat the bottom of your oven-safe dish or gratin dish with butter. Then, arrange the pan-fried tteokguk rice cakes evenly at the bottom. These will form a satisfying base for your gratin.

Step 8

Layer the sautéed and cooled onions, bok choy, stir-fried beef (if using), and the chopped apples over the rice cakes. Layering the ingredients artfully will make the dish more appealing.

Step 9

Finally, generously cover the layered ingredients with mozzarella cheese. A generous amount of melted cheese makes this dish absolutely divine!

Step 10

Place the dish in a preheated air fryer set at 180°C (356°F) for about 8 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden brown, and all the ingredients are heated through. Your delicious apple gratin is ready!
