Ingredients

  • 1kg fresh strawberries
  • 1-2 Tbsp white vinegar (for washing strawberries)
  • 4 cups granulated sugar (approx. 800g)
  • 1 tsp salt (enhances flavor)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s prepare the strawberries for washing. Fill a bowl with enough water to submerge the strawberries and add 1-2 tablespoons of white vinegar. Let them soak for 5 minutes to loosen any dirt. Then, rinse them thoroughly under running water while gently removing the stems. Using vinegar helps in removing residual pesticides.

Step 1

Step 2

After washing, place the strawberries on a layer of paper towels to drain excess water. Spreading them out on paper towels will help them dry faster, saving you time for the next step.

Step 2

Step 3

Now it’s time to chop the strawberries. Avoid using a blender as it will break down the texture. While it might be a bit more work, finely dicing the strawberries with a knife will give you delightful chunks in your drinks, making both the ade and milk more enjoyable.

Step 3

Step 4

Add the granulated sugar (4 cups) and salt (1 tsp) to the finely chopped strawberries. A pinch of salt surprisingly enhances the natural sweetness of the strawberries, so don’t skip it! Just be careful not to add too much, as 1 teaspoon is sufficient.

Step 4

Step 5

Gently stir the mixture, being careful not to mash the strawberries, until the sugar dissolves. Once the sugar has mostly dissolved, transfer the strawberry mixture into a sterilized glass jar. Seal the jar and let it mature in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. Your delicious strawberry syrup is ready! Enjoy it mixed with sparkling water for a refreshing ade or with milk for a creamy treat.
