Main Ingredients

  • 1/2 can Fruit Cocktail (with syrup)
  • 1/2 carrot (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 cucumber (seeds removed, finely chopped)
  • 1 bell pepper (any color, finely chopped)

Sauce Seasoning

  • 5 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 6 Tbsp Sugar
  • 10 Tbsp Vinegar
  • 5 cups Water
  • 2 Tbsp Chicken Stock
  • 1 Tbsp Oyster Sauce
  • 4 Tbsp Fruit Cocktail Syrup
  • 3 Tbsp Cornstarch (mixed with 3 Tbsp water to make a slurry)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the vegetables for the Tangsuyuk sauce. Wash and finely chop the half carrot, half cucumber, and one bell pepper. Aim for small, uniform pieces, about 0.5cm in thickness, or dice them. Removing the seeds from the cucumber before chopping can help it maintain its texture.

Step 1

Step 2

Prepare half a can of fruit cocktail. Open the can and separate the fruit from the syrup. Measure out the syrup that will be used for the sauce and set it aside.

Step 2

Step 3

To thicken the sauce, prepare a cornstarch slurry. In a small bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of cornstarch with 3 tablespoons of cold water. Stir until smooth and lump-free. This will be added later to achieve the desired sauce consistency.

Step 3

Step 4

Now, let’s create the base for the delicious Tangsuyuk sauce. In a saucepan, combine 5 cups of water, 5 tablespoons of soy sauce, 6 tablespoons of sugar, the reserved 4 tablespoons of fruit cocktail syrup, 2 tablespoons of chicken stock, 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, and 10 tablespoons of vinegar. Bring this mixture to a boil over high heat.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the sauce base is boiling vigorously, add all the prepared vegetables: carrots, cucumber, and bell peppers. Allow them to cook slightly, which will also enhance the sauce’s appetizing color.

Step 5

Step 6

As the vegetables begin to soften, gently add the fruit cocktail from the can. Cook for a short while after adding the fruit to ensure it retains its shape and texture.

Step 6

Step 7

It’s time to thicken the sauce to the perfect consistency. Slowly pour the prepared cornstarch slurry into the simmering sauce while stirring continuously. Add more slurry if needed until you reach your desired thickness. Be sure to stir constantly to prevent lumps from forming.

Step 7

Step 8

Your delicious Tangsuyuk sauce is ready! Serve it warm with freshly fried Tangsuyuk (Korean sweet and sour pork), or pair it with crispy fried dumplings, chicken nuggets, or other fried dishes for a delightful meal. This versatile sauce is also a great side for rice!
