Stir-Fried Radish (Munamul) Ingredients- 1 bowl (approx. 300g) Korean radish (Mu), julienned thickly
- 1 stalk of green onion, chopped
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- A little cooking oil
- 5-6 Tbsp anchovy and kelp broth (or water)
Seasoning Ingredients- 1/3 Tbsp salt
- 1/3 Tbsp sugar (enhances the natural sweetness)
- 1/2 Tbsp perilla oil (for nutty aroma)
- A pinch of sesame seeds (for garnish)
- 1/3 Tbsp salt
- 1/3 Tbsp sugar (enhances the natural sweetness)
- 1/2 Tbsp perilla oil (for nutty aroma)
- A pinch of sesame seeds (for garnish)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash and peel the Korean radish. Then, julienne it into thick strips, about 0.5cm thick. Chop the green onion finely. Cutting the radish thickly helps maintain a pleasant texture after stir-frying.
Step 2
Heat a pan over medium heat and add a little cooking oil. Add the julienned radish and stir-fry until the radish starts to wilt slightly. Be careful not to burn it while stir-frying.
Step 3
Once the radish is partially stir-fried, pour in 5-6 tablespoons of anchovy and kelp broth (or water). Cover the pan with a lid and let it simmer gently for about 2-3 minutes until the radish becomes tender and moist.
Step 4
Remove the lid. Add the minced garlic, sugar, and salt. Stir everything together and continue to cook for another 1-2 minutes until well combined. The sugar helps to bring out the radish’s subtle sweetness.
Step 5
Turn off the heat. Finally, sprinkle the chopped green onions, perilla oil, and sesame seeds over the dish. Give it a gentle mix to finish. Your delicious stir-fried radish (Munamul Bokkeum) is ready! The nutty perilla oil and sesame seeds add a wonderful aroma. Enjoy this delightful side dish with your rice.
