Sweet & Savory Sauce- 3 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 3 Tbsp Corn Syrup (or Honey)
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 0.5 Tbsp Salt
- A pinch of Black Pepper
- 3 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 3 Tbsp Corn Syrup (or Honey)
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 0.5 Tbsp Salt
- A pinch of Black Pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the sweet and savory sauce, which is the star of this pork belly rice bowl. In a mixing bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, 3 tablespoons of corn syrup, 1 tablespoon of minced garlic, 0.5 tablespoon of salt, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix well until everything is evenly incorporated. (Tip: You can adjust the sweetness by adding sugar or plum syrup to your preference.)
Step 2
Heat a pan over medium heat and add the pork belly. Cook until it becomes golden brown and slightly crispy, rendering some of its fat. Once the pork belly is nicely browned, pour the prepared sweet and savory sauce into the pan.
Step 3
Stir the pork belly to ensure it’s well-coated with the sauce and continue to cook. Cut the pork belly into bite-sized pieces. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer until it thickens and coats the pork belly nicely. It’s best to turn off the heat when there’s still a little sauce remaining in the pan, rather than letting it dry out completely. (Tip: The sauce-coated pork belly is perfect for topping rice, as it seeps into the grains for extra flavor.)
Step 4
Now, let’s assemble the rice bowl. Place the warm cooked rice into a serving bowl. Evenly arrange the thinly sliced sautéed onions over the rice. Then, artfully place the braised pork belly on top of the onions. Separately, prepare scrambled egg whites and add them to the bowl. Finally, place the fresh egg yolk right in the center. Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley for a beautiful garnish.
Step 5
Gently break the egg yolk with a chopstick and mix it with the rice and pork belly. This adds an incredible richness and creaminess, making the dish about 100 times more delicious! The yolk envelops everything in a velvety texture, enhancing the overall flavor profile. Enjoy your amazing meal!
