Basic Ingredients- 2 Tortillas
- 70g Mozzarella Cheese (adjust to your preference)
- 3 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 tsp Cinnamon Powder
- 15g Nuts (finely chopped or crushed)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare two clean tortillas. You can also cut them into desired sizes or shapes. Corn tortillas are made with corn flour or wheat flour, water, and salt, characterized by their chewy, slightly firm texture and subtle sweetness.
Step 2
Prepare 70g of mozzarella cheese. Pre-shredded or small cubes of cheese are convenient for placing on the tortilla. You can adjust the amount of cheese to your liking for an even tastier experience.
Step 3
In a small bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder, and 15g of finely chopped nuts. Mix well to create the hotteok filling. You can use your favorite nuts like walnuts, almonds, or pecans, or omit them if you prefer. This sweet and fragrant filling will enhance the flavor of your hotteok.
Step 4
Lay one tortilla flat on a plate or cutting board. Spread the prepared mozzarella cheese evenly over half of the tortilla’s surface. When placing the cheese, leave a small border around the edge to prevent the filling from leaking out when folded.
Step 5
Sprinkle the sweet cinnamon-nut filling made in step 2 attractively over the cheese. Be careful not to overfill, as it might spill out during cooking. A moderate amount will suffice. The moist and sweet filling will envelop the tortilla and cheese, creating a delicious hotteok.
Step 6
Prepare a heated non-stick pan. It’s crucial to preheat the pan over low heat without any oil. Cooking slowly over low heat ensures the tortilla doesn’t burn, the inside heats through, and the cheese begins to melt.
Step 7
Fold the filled tortilla in half to create a half-moon shape. Place it in the heated pan and cook over low heat for about 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese inside is fully melted. Once the cheese is gooey, flip it over and cook the other side for another 1-2 minutes until golden brown. You’ll have a delicious tortilla hotteok that’s crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, with wonderfully stretchy cheese! Enjoy it hot right away.
