Introducing a super simple radish namul recipe using sweet winter radishes, perfect for making quickly. This radish namul harmonizes the natural sweetness of the radish, the umami from the shrimp paste, and the nutty aroma of sesame oil, making it a flavor everyone loves. It’s a wonderful side dish for rice, and even more delicious when added to bibimbap! It’s also a great dish for holidays, so be sure to try making it.
Essential Ingredients- 1/2 medium Korean radish
- 2 Tbsp sesame oil
- 2 Tbsp salted shrimp (saeujeot)
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 2 Tbsp chopped green onion
- 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, peel the radish thoroughly. Then, slice it thinly into rounds (about 0.3 cm thick), and julienne these rounds into fine strips (also about 0.3 cm thick). (The thickness can be adjusted to your preference.)
Step 2
Place the julienned radish into a frying pan. Add 2 Tbsp sesame oil, 1 tsp minced garlic, 2 Tbsp chopped green onion, and 2 Tbsp salted shrimp. Start stir-frying over high heat. The radish will naturally release its moisture and begin to cook as if simmering.
Step 3
As the radish becomes translucent and softens, and the released liquid starts to become soupy, reduce the heat to medium. If you prefer a crispier texture, you can stop cooking here. For a softer texture, continue to stir-fry gently over medium heat. Be careful not to overcook it until it becomes mushy.
Step 4
Once the radish has reached your desired tenderness and is softly stir-fried, sprinkle 1 tsp of toasted sesame seeds over the top for a nutty finish.
Step 5
While freshly stir-fried radish namul is delicious, this dish also makes an excellent make-ahead side dish. Once completely cooled, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days of enjoyment. Remember to use clean utensils each time you take some out to eat! And just like that, your super simple and delicious radish namul is complete.
