Super Simple Sundae Jeon: Crispy Pan-Fried Korean Blood Sausage Bites
How to Make Easy Sundae Jeon at Home
Like my mother, who has a special fondness for Sundae (Korean blood sausage), I also grew up loving it. She often told me how she craved Sundae intensely during her pregnancy with me, which might be why I’ve inherited this deep affection for it. We always keep frozen Sundae in our freezer for quick snacks, heating it up when a craving strikes. Today, I wanted to introduce a slightly different way to enjoy this beloved ingredient. This Sundae Jeon is a simple yet delightful dish, transforming the chewy sausage into golden-brown, pan-fried delights. The exterior becomes wonderfully crispy, while the inside remains warm and tender. Let’s get started on how to make this easy and delicious Sundae Jeon!
Ingredients- Frozen Sundae (Korean blood sausage) 300g
- 1 large Egg
- 3 Tbsp Buchim-garu (Korean pancake mix)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Remove the frozen Sundae from the freezer about 10 minutes before cooking to let it slightly thaw. Then, slice it into approximately 1cm thick rounds for easy eating. Avoid slicing them too thinly, as they might break apart during cooking.
Step 2
Crack 1 large egg into a bowl. Whisk it thoroughly with a fork or whisk until the yolk and white are well combined and smooth. Ensuring the egg mixture is lump-free will help it coat the Sundae evenly.
Step 3
Sprinkle 3 tablespoons of Buchim-garu (pancake mix) evenly over the sliced Sundae pieces. Gently shake or toss the Sundae with a spatula so that each slice is lightly coated. Be careful not to apply too thick a layer of the flour mixture.
Step 4
Dip the flour-coated Sundae pieces into the beaten egg mixture. Gently turn them over to ensure the egg wash coats the Sundae thoroughly. This egg coating will help the flour stick and prevent it from peeling off during frying.
Step 5
Heat a moderate amount of cooking oil in a non-stick pan over medium-low heat. Carefully place the egg-coated Sundae slices into the hot oil, making sure they don’t overcrowd the pan. Pan-fry for about 3-5 minutes on each side, until they are golden brown and crispy. Once both sides are nicely browned and the inside is heated through, your delicious Sundae Jeon is ready! Enjoy them warm for the best texture and flavor.
