Super Simple Spam and Cheese Fried Rice with Pasta Sauce!
Spam and Cheese Fried Rice
Craving pasta but no noodles? Use your leftover pasta sauce to create a delicious and satisfying fried rice! This recipe combines the savory flavor of Spam, the creaminess of cheese, and the rich taste of pasta sauce for a dish that’s a hit with both kids and adults. (Note: This recipe was adapted from using just pasta sauce to incorporate rice for a fried rice dish.)
Key Ingredients
- Pasta sauce (Rosé or Tomato recommended) 3 Tbsp
- Spam 1/2 can (approx. 100-120g)
- Instant rice (like Hetbahn) 1 pack
- Cheese (Mozzarella or Cheddar) as much as you like (approx. 50g+)
- Parsley flakes for garnish (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the Spam. Open the Spam can and dice it into small, bite-sized pieces, about 1 cm cubes. Cutting it too large might take longer to cook, so aim for a manageable size.
Step 2
Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add a little cooking oil. Add the diced Spam and stir-fry until it’s nicely browned and slightly crispy. The Spam will release its own delicious fat as it cooks.
Step 3
While the Spam is frying, get your instant rice ready. Warm rice mixes better with sauce, so prepare to heat it up while or just after the Spam is cooking.
Step 4
Place the instant rice pack in the microwave, as is, and heat for about 2 minutes. Refer to the package instructions for the exact cooking time to ensure the rice is warm. This step helps prevent the rice from clumping when fried.
Step 5
Transfer the fried Spam and the warmed instant rice into a large bowl. Now, it’s time to add the pasta sauce for flavor. (I used Rosé sauce, but tomato sauce works wonderfully too.)
Step 6
Add about 3 tablespoons of your chosen pasta sauce. You can adjust the amount to your taste, but be careful not to add too much, as it can make the fried rice too mushy.
Step 7
Using a spatula or spoon, mix the rice, Spam, and sauce thoroughly until everything is well combined. Ensure each grain of rice is coated with the sauce for maximum flavor.
Step 8
Transfer the mixed fried rice to a microwave-safe dish, or keep it in the bowl, and sprinkle a generous amount of cheese over the top. Mozzarella will give you that satisfying stretch, while Cheddar adds a richer flavor.
Step 9
Place the cheese-topped fried rice back into the microwave and heat for another 2 minutes. This melts the cheese beautifully and helps all the ingredients meld together.
Step 10
Take it out of the microwave, and your delicious Spam and Cheese Fried Rice is ready to enjoy! It’s best served warm.
Step 11
Finally, for an extra touch, sprinkle some parsley flakes over the top if desired. This adds a nice visual appeal and a hint of freshness. (Optional)
