- 2 Tbsp finely chopped onion
- 2 Tbsp finely chopped pickles
- 0.5 Tbsp lemon juice
- 0.3 Tbsp sugar
- Pinch of black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Rinse the frozen shrimp under running water to thaw. Remove the shells and tails, then clean them thoroughly. Pat the cleaned shrimp dry with paper towels; this is crucial for the patties to hold their shape.
Step 2
Finely chop the onion and pickles. Finely minced vegetables will create a more harmonious flavor in both the sauce and the patty.
Step 3
In a bowl, combine all the shrimp burger sauce ingredients (mayonnaise, whole grain mustard, chopped onion, chopped pickles, lemon juice, sugar, and pepper). Whisk or stir until well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning if desired, adding more sugar, salt, or pepper to your preference.
Step 4
Finely mince the drained shrimp with a knife. Ensure they are chopped uniformly and not too chunky for a tender patty, though leaving some texture is nice.
Step 5
Slice the hamburger buns in half. Melt 1 Tbsp of butter in a pan over medium-low heat. Place the bun halves cut-side down in the melted butter and toast until golden brown and slightly crisp. Toasting the buns prevents them from becoming soggy and adds a lovely flavor.
Step 6
In a large bowl, combine the minced shrimp, half of the finely chopped onion, 2.5 Tbsp flour, 1 egg, a pinch of salt, and a pinch of pepper. Knead the mixture with your hands until it becomes slightly cohesive. Divide the mixture into two portions and shape them into thick patties, roughly the size of your hamburger buns. Heat 3 Tbsp of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat and cook the patties until golden brown on both sides.
Step 7
Cook each side of the patties for about 3-4 minutes, ensuring they are cooked through and have a golden-brown crust. Aim for a crispy exterior and a moist interior. Cooking over medium heat helps achieve this.
Step 8
Spread 2 Tbsp of mustard sauce evenly on the cut side of the toasted hamburger bun halves. The mustard sauce adds a tangy flavor and cuts through the richness.
Step 9
Layer a generous amount of fresh lettuce on top of the mustard-coated bun. Then, spoon a good portion of the special shrimp burger sauce over the lettuce. Don’t be shy with the sauce – it makes the burger extra delicious!
Step 10
Place the cooked shrimp patty on top of the sauce, followed by a slice of cheddar cheese (let it melt slightly). Finally, add the tomato slices and the remaining lettuce. Top with the other half of the bun to complete your delicious homemade shrimp burger!
