Super Simple No-Water Pork Belly Boiled Pork (Suyuk)
The Easiest Way to Boil Pork Belly Suyuk with a Stainless Steel Pot (No Water Added!)
Today, we’re introducing an incredibly easy way to make ‘Suyuk’ (boiled pork) using a stainless steel pot without any added water. The method is so simple, you should definitely give it a try!
Main Ingredients- Pork Belly 1.2kg
- Onion 1 large
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, thinly slice the onion and spread it evenly across the bottom of a clean stainless steel pot. The natural sweetness and aroma from the onion will infuse the pork, enhancing its flavor.
Step 2
Cut the 1.2kg pork belly into roughly 3 equal pieces for easy handling and serving. Cutting it too small might cause moisture loss during cooking, so aim for a substantial size.
Step 3
Arrange the cut pork belly pieces on top of the sliced onions in the pot. It’s a good idea to leave a little space between the pieces so they cook evenly.
Step 4
Now, it’s time to turn on the heat. Place the stainless steel pot on the stovetop and set the burner to the lowest heat setting possible. Cooking on high heat can burn the exterior while leaving the inside undercooked, so be careful.
Step 5
Securely close the lid of the pot. Let it cook slowly on low heat for 45 minutes. The pork will steam and cook in the juices released from the meat itself and the onions.
Step 6
After 45 minutes, carefully open the pot lid. Be cautious of the steam that will escape.
Step 7
Insert a chopstick into the pork belly to check if it’s cooked through. If the chopstick slides in smoothly without resistance and no pink liquid appears, the pork is perfectly cooked.
Step 8
Transfer the perfectly cooked suyuk to a serving plate or slice it into bite-sized pieces directly in the pot. Slicing it while warm will ensure clean cuts without it falling apart. Enjoy with kimchi, dipping sauces, or fresh lettuce wraps!
