Recipe Info

  • Category : Rice / Porridge / Rice cake
  • Ingredient Category : Processed foods
  • Occasion : Quick & Easy
  • Cooking : Others
  • Servings : 1 serving
  • Cooking Time : Within 15 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Ingredients

  • 1 serving of Tteokbokki rice cakes (tteok)
  • 1-2 slices of Cheddar cheese
  • Milk (enough to cover the tteok)

Seasoning

  • 3-5 Tbsp Tomato sauce
  • 1/2 packet of instant ramen soup powder (or chicken stock)
  • Sausage (optional, sliced)
  • Glass noodles (optional, soaked)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

If you’re using frozen tteok (rice cakes), gently rinse them under running water to prevent them from sticking together. (No need to fully thaw! Just rinsing is enough to soften them slightly. If your tteok is already thawed, skip to step 2.)

Step 1

Step 2

Place the tteok in a microwave-safe bowl. Add 3 to 5 tablespoons of store-bought tomato sauce. Add enough sauce so that the tteok are almost fully covered in the sauce’s color.

Step 2

Step 3

Next, pour in enough milk to generously cover the tteok. The milk should come up to about 2/3 of the way up the tteok. (I personally like to add a bit more milk to prevent the sauce from becoming too thick.)

Step 3

Step 4

Cover the bowl with a microwave-safe lid or plastic wrap. If using plastic wrap, poke 3-4 small holes in it with a toothpick or fork. This is crucial to prevent pressure buildup and potential explosions in the microwave! If using a lid, just place it on top.

Step 4

Step 5

Place the covered bowl in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes. (This cooking time is based on a 700W microwave. Adjust the time according to your microwave’s wattage.)

Step 5

Step 6

After 3 minutes, carefully remove the bowl from the microwave. Now, prepare the cheddar cheese. Cut the cheddar cheese slices into roughly square shapes (or any shape you like) and place them evenly over the tteokbokki.

Step 6

Step 7

After adding the cheese, cover the bowl again with the lid or plastic wrap (with holes poked) and microwave for another 2 minutes. This step helps the cheese melt and blend beautifully with the tteokbokki.

Step 7

Step 8

When you take it out after the second 2-minute microwaving, the cheese should be nicely melted, creating a visually appealing rose tteokbokki. If it looks like this, you’re doing great! +.+

Step 8

Step 9

Now, gently stir everything together with a spatula or spoon. Make sure to mix thoroughly so that the sauce and melted cheese coat the tteok evenly. Mix it up, shake it up!~~!!

Step 9

Step 10

Finally, you can adjust the taste to your preference. If it feels a bit too rich or you want a touch of heat, add just one drop of a spicy sauce (like Buldak sauce) and mix well. This completes your unique rose tteokbokki! You’ve done a great job!!
