  • 2 fresh eggs
  • 1 piece of unsalted butter (approx. 10g)
  • 100g sliced ham or Vienna sausages (cut into bite-sized pieces)
  • 1/2 handful of green onions (white part, finely chopped)
  • 1/4 cup water (approx. 50ml)

  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce (approx. 15ml)

Before you begin, prepare and measure all your ingredients. Using warm rice will yield a better result. If using ham, dice it into small, easy-to-eat pieces.

Get a microwave-safe bowl with a decent depth. Carefully crack the 2 eggs into the bottom of the bowl. Then, add the warm rice, chopped ham, and finely sliced green onions on top.

Using a spoon, gently mix the rice, eggs, ham, and green onions together within the bowl. Stir lightly to combine all the ingredients. If you break the egg yolks and mix them with the rice, it will result in a creamier texture.

Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap. Ensure it’s sealed, but leave a little bit of slack so it doesn’t press directly onto the food. Using a chopstick or fork, poke 2-3 small holes in the plastic wrap. This step is crucial for venting steam and ensuring safe cooking. Place the covered bowl in the microwave and cook on High power for 5 minutes.

After 5 minutes, carefully remove the bowl from the microwave. Insert a chopstick into the center of the rice mixture to check if the egg is cooked through. If it seems undercooked, microwave in additional 30-second intervals until done. Once cooked, add the piece of butter and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce on top of the rice. Stir everything together vigorously until the butter melts and the soy sauce is well incorporated. The rich butter aroma and savory soy sauce create a heavenly combination.
