Main Ingredients
  • Rice 1 cup (paper cup measure)
  • Fresh bean sprouts 1 handful (approx. 50-70g)
  • Water 1/2 cup (paper cup measure)

Seasoning Ingredients
  • Soy sauce 2 Tbsp
  • Sugar 1/2 Tbsp
  • Minced garlic 1 Tbsp
  • Sesame oil 1 Tbsp
  • Sesame seeds, a pinch
  • Water 1 Tbsp

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, rinse the rice thoroughly and soak it for about 30 minutes. (You can skip this if you’re short on time, but soaking makes the rice tastier!) Place the soaked rice in a deep microwave-safe container. Spread the washed bean sprouts evenly over the rice. Finally, add 1/2 cup of water (measured with a paper cup). Since the bean sprouts release moisture, use slightly less water than you normally would for cooking rice.

Step 2

Loosely cover the container with a lid or plastic wrap, poking a few holes in the wrap. Microwave for 4 minutes. After 4 minutes, take it out, let it steam for 1 minute, then return it to the microwave and cook for another 3 minutes. This ensures the rice grains cook evenly and the bean sprouts are tender without any raw taste.

Step 3

While the bean sprout rice is cooking, mix all the seasoning ingredients together. Combine 2 Tbsp soy sauce, 1/2 Tbsp sugar, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp sesame oil, a pinch of sesame seeds, and 1 Tbsp water. Mix well to create a delicious seasoning sauce. Drizzle this sauce over the finished bean sprout rice and mix to enjoy a fantastic meal!
