  • 1 block firm tofu (approx. 300g)
  • 1 large green onion (generous amount)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Hello everyone! Today, I’m going to share a super easy and quick recipe for Mapo Tofu, a beloved spicy dish that’s perfect with rice. You can easily enjoy restaurant-quality Mapo Tofu at home without needing any special ingredients.

Step 1

Step 2

First, let’s prepare the main ingredients for our dish today. You’ll need 1 block of firm tofu, 300g of ground pork, and 1 large green onion to add that wonderful aroma.

Step 2

Step 3

Wash the green onion thoroughly and chop it into small, bite-sized pieces, about 0.5cm thick. When stir-fried, this will help release a more robust green onion flavor, making your Mapo Tofu even more delicious.

Step 3

Step 4

Heat 2 tablespoons of perilla oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Once the pan is warm, add all the chopped green onions. Stir frequently to prevent burning, and cook until they become lightly golden brown and fragrant. This step infuses the oil with the sweet aroma of the green onions, significantly enhancing the dish’s overall flavor.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the green onion aroma is well-developed, add the 300g of ground pork to the pan. Increase the heat to medium-high and break up the pork with your spatula to ensure it cooks evenly without clumping.

Step 5

Step 6

Continue to stir-fry the ground pork until it loses its pink color and becomes crumbly. Stir-frying it thoroughly helps to remove any gamey odors and adds a richer, nuttier flavor.

Step 6

Step 7

Now, open the packet of store-bought Mapo Tofu sauce and pour it into the pan. Stir gently with a spatula or spoon to combine the sauce with the cooked pork and green onions. Cook as the sauce thickens and melds with the ingredients.

Step 7

Step 8

Finally, it’s time to add the tofu. Rinse the block of tofu and cut it into roughly 2cm cubes. Carefully add the cubed tofu to the simmering sauce in the pan. Gently mix to avoid breaking the tofu, and continue to cook with the sauce for about 1-2 minutes, allowing the tofu to absorb the flavors.

Step 8

Step 9

Voilà! Your delicious Mapo Tofu is ready. It’s incredibly tasty served over a bowl of hot steamed rice. The fragrant green onion aroma, the soft tofu, and the perfectly balanced spicy and savory Mapo Tofu sauce come together to create an unforgettable taste. Enjoy your meal!
