Super Simple Jjajangbap (Korean Black Bean Rice)
Delicious Jjajangbap Made Easy with Instant Jjajang Powder
My little one has been craving ‘sweet and savory jjajangbap’ today! I’ve gathered all the leftover veggies in the fridge and added some chicken tenderloin to create this incredibly simple and quick black bean sauce. This is a foolproof recipe, perfect even for beginner cooks. Let’s make a delightful, flavorful jjajangbap that the whole family can enjoy together!
Ingredients
- 150g Chicken tenderloin (can be substituted with beef, pork, or any meat available)
- 1/4 Onion
- 1/8 Carrot
- 1/2 Potato
- 1/8 Sweet pumpkin (optional, for sweetness and color)
- 50g Instant jjajang powder
- 1/2 Tbsp Sugar
- 2 Cups Water (approx. 400ml)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
We’re using a readily available instant jjajang powder for ultimate convenience. Feel free to use your favorite brand or type!
Step 2
Here’s the chicken tenderloin, our main protein. It’s tender and perfect for kids. You can absolutely use beef or pork if that’s what you have on hand! Aim for about 150g.
Step 3
Since this is for children, I’ve finely diced all the vegetables. I’ve used potato, carrot, onion, and sweet pumpkin, but feel free to substitute with zucchini, mushrooms, or any other vegetable your child enjoys!
Step 4
Heat a pan without any oil. First, stir-fry the diced vegetables until they start to soften and release moisture. Then, add the chicken tenderloin and cook until it turns opaque.
Step 5
In a separate bowl, whisk the instant jjajang powder (50g) into 2 cups of water until smooth and no lumps remain. This step helps ensure a smooth sauce later.
Step 6
Pour the prepared jjajang mixture into the pot with the sautéed vegetables and chicken. Stir continuously to prevent sticking to the bottom. Add 1/2 tablespoon of sugar for a touch of sweetness and depth. The jjajang powder usually has enough seasoning, so no extra salt is typically needed.
Step 7
See how easy that was? Anyone can make this delicious jjajangbap! It’s a guaranteed hit with kids, so it’s a great treat to make occasionally.
Step 8
Serve a bowl of warm rice, and generously ladle the homemade jjajang sauce over the top. Mixing it all together makes for a truly satisfying meal that kids will devour!
