Main Ingredients- 3 sheets of flat fish cakes (eomuk, approx. 200g)
- 1/2 green onion stalk (approx. 50g)
Seasoning Ingredients- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup or oligodang
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1/2 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- 1 Tbsp canola oil or vegetable oil
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup or oligodang
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1/2 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- 1 Tbsp canola oil or vegetable oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the fish cakes. Take 3 sheets of flat fish cakes and thinly slice them into strips about 0.5 cm wide. Aim for a thickness that provides a good chewy texture; too thin and they might become too soft.
Step 2
Next, prepare the green onion. Cut it to a length similar to the fish cake strips. You can slice it diagonally, or cut it in half lengthwise and then into 0.5 cm thick strips. This way, the green onion’s fragrance will infuse beautifully into the fish cakes.
Step 3
Now, let’s start stir-frying. Heat a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced fish cakes and green onions to the pan. Drizzle in 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp oyster sauce, and 1 Tbsp canola oil (or vegetable oil) around the edges of the pan. Adding oil to the sides helps prevent sticking and adds a lovely sheen.
Step 4
Stir-fry quickly using chopsticks or a spatula, tossing the ingredients to combine them well. Cook until the fish cakes become slightly translucent and start absorbing the sauce, about 1-2 minutes. Be careful not to overcook, as the fish cakes can become tough.
Step 5
Once the fish cakes are tender and have absorbed some of the sauce, add 1 Tbsp of corn syrup (or oligodang). This will add a pleasant sweetness and a glossy finish to the dish.
Step 6
Finally, add 1 Tbsp of sesame oil for a rich aroma and 1/2 Tbsp of toasted sesame seeds for a nutty crunch.
Step 7
Give everything a final quick toss to combine the last ingredients, and your delicious stir-fried fish cakes are ready! This dish is perfect served warm over rice. Enjoy this simple yet flavorful Korean side dish. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for future enjoyment.
