Super Simple and Delicious Spam Donburi Recipe
The Irresistible Sweet & Salty Charm! 5-Minute Spam Donburi Recipe
This is a true rice thief! Introducing a delicious Spam Donburi recipe that’s perfect for when you have no appetite and need something quick. The saltiness of the Spam combined with the sweet sauce creates a fantastic flavor.
Main Ingredients- 1/2 can Spam
- 1/2 Onion
- 1 Egg
Donburi Sauce- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 6 Tbsp Water
- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 6 Tbsp Water
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare your ingredients. Thinly slice half an onion. Cut half a can of Spam into bite-sized pieces (about 1cm thick). Slicing them beforehand helps to shorten the cooking time.
Step 2
Crack one egg into a small bowl and gently whisk it with a fork or chopsticks until the yolk and white are just combined. You don’t need to beat it vigorously; a gentle mix is perfect.
Step 3
Heat a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced Spam and cook until it’s golden brown on both sides. The Spam will release some of its own fat, which adds to the flavor. Once browned, temporarily remove the Spam from the pan and set aside on a plate.
Step 4
In the same pan, adding a little more oil if needed, sauté the sliced onions until they become translucent. Once the onions are softened, pour in the prepared Donburi Sauce (2 Tbsp Soy Sauce, 1 Tbsp Sugar, 6 Tbsp Water).
Step 5
Once the sauce starts to bubble, return the cooked Spam to the pan. Let it simmer with the onions and sauce until everything is well combined and the sauce has slightly thickened. Simmering over medium-low heat allows the Spam to absorb the delicious flavors.
Step 6
When the sauce has reduced to a slightly syrupy consistency, gently pour the whisked egg around the edges of the pan. Cook just until the egg is softly set (like a sunny-side-up) for a creamy texture that complements the Spam donburi.
Step 7
Spoon the delicious, simmered Spam, onions, and egg mixture over a bowl of warm rice for a satisfying Spam Donburi! For an extra touch, you can sprinkle with shredded nori (seaweed) or sesame seeds. Enjoy this simple yet hearty meal!
