Key Ingredients

  • 1 slice of white bread (slightly thicker slices work best)
  • 30ml heavy cream (whipping cream)
  • 8g granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 24g mascarpone cheese (cream cheese can be substituted)
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder (for dusting)
  • 1 packet instant coffee (e.g., KANU or Maxim)
  • A little warm water (for dissolving coffee)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s prepare the luscious tiramisu cream. In a bowl, combine the cold heavy cream (30ml) and granulated sugar (8g). Adding the sugar in 3-4 increments will help the cream whip up to a firmer consistency. Using a hand mixer or a whisk, whip the cream until stiff peaks form – meaning the cream holds its shape when the whisk is lifted. Be careful not to over-whip, as it can turn buttery.

Step 1

Step 2

To the whipped cream, add the mascarpone cheese (24g). Gently mix using a spatula or the whisk until just combined and smooth. Ensure the mascarpone cheese is fully incorporated without any lumps, creating a creamy texture. Avoid overmixing to maintain a light and airy consistency.

Step 2

Step 3

Dissolve the instant coffee packet in a small amount of warm water to create a strong coffee syrup. Carefully trim the crusts off the white bread slice with a knife. Lightly brush one side of the bread with the coffee syrup, ensuring it’s moist but not soggy, as too much liquid can make the bread fall apart. Then, spread a generous layer of the prepared tiramisu cream over the coffee-soaked bread. You can fold the bread in half or layer the cream on top, depending on your preference. Place the assembled tiramisu in an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. This allows the coffee flavor to infuse and the cream to set, mellowing the coffee’s bitterness.

Step 3

Step 4

Once chilled, remove the tiramisu from the refrigerator. Dust the top generously with unsweetened cocoa powder using a sieve for a classic finish. Cut into bite-sized pieces and enjoy immediately! It pairs wonderfully with a warm cup of coffee or tea. 🙂
