Super Easy Microwave Seasoned Bean Sprouts
Microwave Seasoned Bean Sprouts in Just 4 Minutes!
Hello there! As they say, ‘Rice power is national power.’ Let’s make a simple and delicious seasoned bean sprout dish, a beloved staple in Korean cuisine. Bean sprouts are not only affordable but also packed with Vitamin C, making them beneficial for preventing colds, relieving fatigue, and easing hangovers. Furthermore, their rich mineral content, including methionine and saponin, contributes to beautiful skin. They also help improve brain function by enhancing oxygen supply to brain cells. Growing bean sprouts increases their fiber content and generates Vitamin C, which isn’t present in soybeans. Our ancestors knew this and grew bean sprouts at home to supplement their diet with essential nutrients like Vitamin C, especially during winter. This dish truly embodies ancestral wisdom! Today, we’re sharing a super-easy seasoned bean sprout recipe made in just 4 minutes using a microwave, inspired by a KBS ‘Yeoyu Manman’ recipe. Enjoy a quick and tasty side dish even on your busiest days!
Main Ingredients
- 200g bean sprouts (about 3 generous handfuls)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare 200g of bean sprouts. If you don’t have a scale, this is about 3 generous handfuls. Choosing fresh bean sprouts is key to a delicious outcome.
Step 2
Soak the bean sprouts in cold water for about 5 minutes to remove any dirt, then rinse them thoroughly under running water 2-3 times. After rinsing, drain them completely in a colander to prevent excess moisture when seasoning.
Step 3
Now, let’s prepare the seasonings for our delicious bean sprout dish. You’ll need 2/3 Tbsp red pepper flakes, 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1/3 Tbsp minced garlic, and a pinch of salt. Set aside the sesame oil and sesame seeds for later.
Step 4
In a microwave-safe bowl, add the drained bean sprouts and all the prepared seasonings (red pepper flakes, soy sauce, minced garlic, salt). Important: Do not add the sesame oil and sesame seeds yet! Adding them now and microwaving can result in a raw, ‘beany’ smell.
Step 5
Cover the microwave-safe bowl with a plate that fits snugly, acting as a lid. Microwave on high for 4 minutes. (For a 700W microwave; cooking times may vary depending on your appliance, so start checking around 3.5 minutes).
Step 6
After 4 minutes in the microwave, you’ll notice the bowl is filled with steam, a sign that the bean sprouts have cooked nicely using their own moisture.
Step 7
The bean sprouts have softened beautifully! However, it’s very hot due to the steam. Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave and let it cool slightly before handling to avoid burns.
Step 8
Once the bean sprouts have cooled down a bit, it’s time to mix them with the seasonings. Wearing disposable gloves is recommended to keep your hands clean. For extra grip and hygiene, you can wear a thin cotton glove underneath the disposable one.
Step 9
Finally, add the reserved 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil and 1/2 Tbsp sesame seeds. Gently mix everything together once more. The savory aroma of sesame oil and seeds will elevate the flavor.
Step 10
Voila! Your delicious seasoned bean sprouts are ready. Enjoy this super-easy side dish made in just 4 minutes with your microwave!
