Today’s recipe is Mapo Tofu! It’s incredibly simple to make using just a store-bought Mapo Tofu sauce, and it tastes absolutely delicious. Adding ground meat makes it a dish that even children will thoroughly enjoy. This recipe is perfect for a quick yet flavorful meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 pack (130g) Store-bought Mapo Tofu Sauce
  • 200g Ground Pork
  • 1 block (approx. 300g) Tofu
  • 1/2 Onion
  • 2 Tbsp Cooking Oil
  • 1/2 cup (100ml) Water
  • 1/2 Tbsp Oyster Sauce

Cooking Instructions

We will be making Mapo Tofu using a convenient pre-made sauce, specifically the ‘Pulmuone Chinese Style Mapo Tofu Sauce’. This method simplifies the process significantly, allowing you to achieve a delicious result with minimal effort.

Rinse the tofu under running water. Then, cut it into bite-sized cubes, about 1.5 cm. Cutting the tofu into uniform, moderately sized pieces will help prevent it from breaking apart too much during cooking.

Peel the onion and dice it finely, aiming for a size similar to your tofu cubes (about 1cm). Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until it becomes translucent.

Once the onions are translucent, add the ground pork to the pan. Break up the meat with your spatula and stir-fry until it is fully cooked through and no longer pink. Ensure all the meat is browned.

When the pork is cooked, pour in the entire packet of Mapo Tofu sauce (130g). Add 1/2 cup (100ml) of water and stir well to combine everything. Mix thoroughly so the sauce and water are evenly distributed.

To enhance the savory flavor profile, add 1/2 tablespoon of oyster sauce. Oyster sauce adds a wonderful depth and umami that complements the Mapo Tofu.

Carefully add the cubed tofu to the pan. Gently stir the mixture to coat the tofu with the Mapo Tofu sauce without breaking the cubes. Let it simmer gently.

Continue to simmer the Mapo Tofu for about 3 to 4 minutes over medium heat, allowing the tofu to absorb the flavors and the sauce to thicken slightly. Your delicious Mapo Tofu is now ready! Adjust the heat and cooking time to achieve your desired sauce consistency.
