Main Ingredients- 1 handful of Tteokguk Tteok (rice cake soup rice cakes), rinsed in cold water
- 5-7 mini sausages or regular sausages, cut into bite-sized pieces
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, lightly rinse the Tteokguk tteok in cold water and drain. Cut the sausages into bite-sized pieces. Using mini sausages, which are long and narrow, makes them easier to skewer. Briefly blanch both the rice cakes and sausages in boiling water for about 30 seconds to 1 minute. This softens them, making them easier to skewer and preventing them from burning during cooking. After blanching, rinse them in cold water to remove excess moisture.
Step 2
Thread the prepared rice cakes and sausages onto skewers, alternating between them for an appealing look. You can start with a rice cake and then a sausage, or vice versa. Aim for a balanced arrangement that allows you to enjoy the chewy texture of the rice cakes and the satisfying bite of the sausages together.
Step 3
Heat a lightly oiled frying pan over medium-low heat. Place the skewered rice cakes and sausages onto the pan and grill them until they are lightly golden brown on both sides. A slightly browned exterior enhances the texture. Be mindful of the heat to prevent burning, ensuring they cook evenly.
Step 4
In a bowl, combine all the sauce ingredients: Gochujang, ketchup, oligodang (or mulyeot), soy sauce, minced garlic, and sesame oil. Mix well. Place the grilled ‘so-tteok-so-tteok’ back into the pan and generously brush them with the prepared sauce. Flip them over to ensure the sauce coats both sides evenly, creating a glossy finish. Cook until the sauce thickens slightly and clings to the rice cakes and sausages. Your delicious ‘So-tteok-so-tteok’ is ready to enjoy!
