Melt-in-Your-Mouth Boiled Pork (Suyuk) Made Effortlessly in Your Electric Rice Cooker: Is it really this easy?
Craving some delicious boiled pork (suyuk) right now? I made this super easy version using my electric rice cooker! ^^ : Tender and succulent boiled pork that anyone can make with ease.
Main Ingredient- Pork Belly or Pork Shoulder 1kg (2.2 lbs)
Boiling Ingredients- Doenjang (Korean Soybean Paste) 2 Tbsp
- Whole Garlic Cloves 1 handful (about 10-15 cloves)
- Onion 1 (cut into large pieces)
- Green Onion 1 stalk (cut into large pieces)
- Instant Coffee Powder 1 sachet (approx. 2-3g)
- Doenjang (Korean Soybean Paste) 2 Tbsp
- Whole Garlic Cloves 1 handful (about 10-15 cloves)
- Onion 1 (cut into large pieces)
- Green Onion 1 stalk (cut into large pieces)
- Instant Coffee Powder 1 sachet (approx. 2-3g)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the star of our dish: the pork (pork belly or shoulder). Score the surface of the meat with a knife, making shallow cuts. This helps the seasonings penetrate deeply and ensures a more tender texture once cooked.
Step 2
Lightly season the pork. There are several ways to do this, but here, we recommend applying about 2 tablespoons of doenjang (Korean soybean paste) evenly over the entire surface of the meat. (Alternatively, you can use only minced garlic, or a mix of salt and pepper, or even doenjang combined with minced garlic.)
Step 3
Place the large chunks of onion and green onion at the bottom of the electric rice cooker pot. Gently lay the seasoned pork on top. Sprinkle the whole garlic cloves and the instant coffee powder sachet over the meat. Coffee powder is excellent for eliminating any gamey odors.
Step 4
Now, select the ‘Multi-Cook’ or ‘Steam’ function on your electric rice cooker. Set the timer for approximately 1 hour to 1 hour and 20 minutes. You may need to adjust the cooking time depending on the thickness of the meat and your rice cooker’s performance. Close the lid and wait for the cooking cycle to complete.
Step 5
Voila! Once the cooking is finished, behold your perfectly cooked, steaming hot boiled pork (suyuk). To check for doneness, insert a chopstick into the meat; if no pink liquid comes out, it’s ready.
Step 6
Freshly made, warm boiled pork pairs wonderfully with a crisp, fresh kimchi salad (geotjeori). Prepare your favorite dipping sauces like salted shrimp, garlic, or ssamjang to your liking.
Step 7
Alright, it’s time to make some delicious wraps! Place a piece of the boiled pork on a lettuce or perilla leaf, generously add some geotjeori, garlic, and ssamjang, and enjoy a flavorful bite. It’s truly wonderful to enjoy such a fantastic boiled pork dish at home!
