Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Today, I’ll show you how to make delicious Japchae easily using an air fryer. It’s a perfect dish for holidays or any special occasion.
Step 2
First, prepare all your ingredients. You’ll need Japchae noodles for 2 servings, 3 sheets of fish cake, about 1/4 bunch of spinach, half a carrot, and half an onion. For the seasoning, gather 1/2 cup soy sauce, 2 tablespoons cooking oil, 2 tablespoons sesame oil, 1 tablespoon sugar, and a pinch of black pepper.
Step 3
Rinse the Japchae noodles under running water and soak them in cold water for at least 20 minutes until they are fully softened. Soaked noodles will achieve the perfect chewy texture when cooked. Once softened, drain the noodles thoroughly in a colander.
Step 4
In a bowl, combine the drained noodles with 1/2 cup soy sauce, 2 tablespoons cooking oil, 2 tablespoons sesame oil, 1 tablespoon sugar, and a pinch of black pepper. Gently mix everything with your hands, massaging the seasoning into the noodles. This step allows the noodles to absorb the flavors beautifully.
Step 5
Thinly julienne the carrot and onion. Slice the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces, about 1 cm wide. Add these prepared vegetables and fish cakes to the bowl with the seasoned noodles. Mix gently to combine.
Step 6
Wash the spinach and ensure it’s well-drained. Layer the spinach on top of the noodle and vegetable mixture. This helps the spinach steam and cook perfectly. Finally, drizzle a little cooking oil over the top. This prevents sticking and keeps everything moist.
Step 7
Now, pour enough water into an air fryer-safe dish to almost cover the noodles. The water helps the noodles cook evenly and stay moist. About 1/2 to 1 cup should be sufficient, but adjust based on your dish size.
Step 8
Place the dish in a preheated air fryer set to 180°C (350°F) and cook for 15 minutes. Cooking times can vary depending on your air fryer model. After 15 minutes, check if the noodles and vegetables are cooked to your liking. If not, continue cooking in 2-3 minute increments until done. You can stir halfway through for more even cooking.
Step 9
Voila! Your delicious Air Fryer Fish Cake Japchae is ready. Look at that glossy finish – it’s absolutely appetizing! Serve it warm and enjoy this delightful dish.
