- 2 Tbsp Ketchup (about 30ml)
- 1 Tbsp Oligodang (Korean corn syrup, about 15ml, adjust sweetness to taste)
- 0.5 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste, about 7.5ml, adjust spiciness to taste)
- 0.3 Tbsp Minced Garlic (about 4.5ml, add more if you love garlic flavor)
- 1 Tbsp Chopped Nuts (about 10g, optional but adds great texture and flavor)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, slice the sundae into bite-sized pieces. Aim for about 2-3 cm chunks to prevent them from falling apart during cooking.
Step 2
Let’s prepare the special dipping sauce! In a small bowl, combine 2 Tbsp ketchup, 1 Tbsp oligodang, 0.5 Tbsp gochujang, 0.3 Tbsp minced garlic, and 1 Tbsp chopped nuts. Stir well until everything is thoroughly mixed. Taste and adjust the sweetness or spiciness according to your preference.
Step 3
Add 1 Tbsp of pancake mix to the sliced sundae and toss gently to coat evenly. This will help the egg wash adhere better and give it a nice crispiness.
Step 4
In a separate bowl, lightly beat 1 egg. Pour the beaten egg over the sundae and mix gently, ensuring each piece is coated with a thin layer of egg.
Step 5
Now it’s time to pan-fry! Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Once the oil is shimmering, carefully place the egg-coated sundae pieces into the pan.
Step 6
Cook each side until golden brown and crispy, about 3-5 minutes per side. This will ensure the outside is perfectly crisp while the inside remains tender and moist.
Step 7
Arrange the beautifully pan-fried sundae jeon on a plate and serve immediately with the prepared sweet and spicy dipping sauce. Enjoy while warm for the best texture and flavor!
