Main Ingredients

  • 1/4 head Napa cabbage

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp chili oil
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
  • 3 Tbsp vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • 1/3 stalk scallion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 green chili pepper
  • 1 red chili pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Bring a generous amount of water to a boil in a pot. Once boiling, arrange the washed Napa cabbage leaves on a steamer basket. Cover the steamer with a lid and cook over medium heat for about 13 minutes, allowing it to steam. Keep an eye on the cabbage to ensure it doesn’t overcook and become too mushy.

Step 1

Step 2

A simple way to check if the cabbage is perfectly steamed is by inserting a chopstick into the thicker stem parts. If the chopstick slides in easily with little resistance, the cabbage is done. If it feels firm, steam it a little longer, but be careful not to let it become too soft.

Step 2

Step 3

While the cabbage is steaming, prepare the aromatics for the sauce. Finely mince the scallion, green chili, and red chili pepper after washing them and removing the seeds. Mince the garlic cloves as well. Finely chopped ingredients will help the sauce meld beautifully with the cabbage.

Step 3

Step 4

In a bowl, combine the chili oil (1 Tbsp), sugar (1 Tbsp), soy sauce (1 Tbsp), oyster sauce (1 Tbsp), vinegar (3 Tbsp), and water (2 Tbsp). Add the minced scallion, garlic, green chili, and red chili pepper. Stir everything together thoroughly with a spoon to create a delicious, well-balanced sauce. Ensure all ingredients are fully incorporated.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the cabbage is perfectly steamed, cut it into bite-sized pieces and arrange them attractively on a serving plate. Generously spoon the prepared spicy and tangy sauce over the steamed cabbage. Your delightful Steamed Napa Cabbage is ready to be served! It’s delicious immediately, or you can lightly toss it and chill it in the refrigerator for a refreshing cold dish.
