The weather is getting warmer, and cherry blossoms are already blooming beautifully in the gardens! Today, I’m feeling much happier thanks to this pretty cherry blossom rolled omelet. It’s a delightful dish that brings a touch of spring to your table.
Ingredients- 4 large eggs
- 1/4 block pink sausage
- Pinch of salt, to taste
- A little chopped scallion (green onion)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Introducing the ‘Cherry Blossom Rolled Omelet’ – a visually stunning and healthy dish that’s perfect for spring!
Step 2
First, slice the pink sausage as thinly as possible. This will allow you to cut out pretty shapes. If you have star-shaped cookie cutters, use them to cut out star shapes from the thin sausage slices. These will be your ‘cherry blossoms’ or ‘stars’.
Step 3
Carefully separate the egg whites from the yolks. Season the egg whites with a pinch of salt. For the egg yolks, finely mince or process the remaining pink sausage until it’s almost paste-like. Mix this minced sausage thoroughly with the egg yolks and add a pinch of salt. This will give the yolk layer a lovely color and savory flavor.
Step 4
Wash and finely chop the scallions. Add the chopped scallions to the separated egg whites and mix gently. The green flecks of the scallions will add a nice visual contrast to the white egg layer.
Step 5
Prepare a rectangular non-stick frying pan, ideally one designed for making rolled omelets. Gently heat the pan over low heat. Pour in the egg yolk mixture and let it cook until it’s almost set. Then, carefully roll it up from one end to the other, creating a solid yellow log. This will form the base of your omelet.
Step 6
Push the rolled egg yolk omelet to one side of the pan. Arrange the pre-cut pink sausage stars attractively on the empty side of the pan. Now, gradually pour the egg white mixture over the sausage stars and the existing yolk omelet, continuing to roll everything together. As you roll, the sausage stars will embed themselves within the layers of the omelet.
Step 7
It’s crucial to cook this omelet over low heat throughout the process. High heat can cause the egg to burn or break apart. Gently and carefully continue rolling, ensuring the shape remains intact. You can add the egg white mixture in batches, rolling each addition to build a thicker, more beautiful omelet.
Step 8
Once the omelet is fully cooked and rolled, carefully transfer it to a bamboo sushi rolling mat (makisu). Use the mat to shape the omelet into a neat square or your desired form. Gently press the mat around the omelet to firm it up. This step is key to achieving clean, attractive slices when you cut it later.
Step 9
Voila! Your beautiful Cherry Blossom Rolled Omelet is complete, bringing the vibrant spirit of spring right to your plate. Serve it with warm rice or as a delightful side dish. It’s sure to be a hit with both children and adults alike!
