Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the red jelly for the veins. In a small bowl, combine the red jelly powder and 6 tablespoons of water. Microwave for about 2 minutes, or until the jelly powder is fully dissolved. Stir occasionally to ensure even heating and melting.
Step 2
Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave. Stir the red jelly mixture thoroughly with a spoon until it’s smooth and all the gelatin has dissolved. Be cautious as it will be hot!
Step 3
Next, we’ll make the black jelly for the pupils. Dissolve 3g of instant black coffee in 3 tablespoons of hot water. Stir well until you have a smooth, concentrated coffee liquid.
Step 4
Add the 5g of bloomed sheet gelatin to the coffee mixture and stir until it’s completely dissolved. You can microwave this mixture for about 2 minutes, or in 30-second intervals, to help the gelatin melt. Be careful not to overheat or scorch it.
Step 5
Pour the black jelly mixture onto a tray or a flat plate. Place it in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes to set slightly. You want it firm enough to cut but not completely hard.
Step 6
Once the black jelly has firmed up, use a small circular cookie cutter or even a bottle cap to cut out pupil shapes. These will be the dark centers of your eyeballs.
Step 7
Now, let’s prepare the white jelly for the eyeball base. In a bowl, combine 2 cups of milk and 20g of bloomed sheet gelatin. Microwave for approximately 2 minutes, then stir well. If the gelatin hasn’t fully dissolved, microwave in additional 1-2 minute intervals until smooth.
Step 8
Stir the milk and gelatin mixture until it’s perfectly smooth and creamy. This forms the opaque white base of your eyeballs.
Step 9
Begin assembling the eyeballs in the ice ball mold. Using a small spoon, carefully add about 1/2 teaspoon of the red jelly mixture into each section of the mold. This will form the bloodshot veins. Place the mold in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes to set this layer slightly.
Step 10
Gently place one of the black jelly pupil shapes you cut out into the center of each slightly set red jelly layer. Make sure they are centered.
Step 11
After placing the pupils, carefully pour a little more of the red jelly mixture over them, just enough to partially cover the pupils. Return the mold to the refrigerator for another 10 minutes to set this layer. This helps secure the pupil in place.
Step 12
Now, pour the white milk jelly mixture into the remaining space in each mold cavity, filling it up. The white jelly will envelop the pupil and the red veins, creating the complete eyeball shape.
Step 13
Place the lid on the ice ball mold and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until the jelly is completely firm. Chilling thoroughly is key to easily unmolding the eyeballs.
Step 14
Once the eyeball jellies are set, carefully unmold them and place them into serving cups. Pour chilled soda over the eyeball jellies to complete your Spooky Eyeball Jelly Drink! Enjoy the fun, bursting texture and refreshing taste.
