Main Ingredients- 1 bowl (approx. 210g) warm cooked rice
- 1 can (100g) spicy tuna
- 2 strips bacon, chopped
- 1/4 onion, finely diced
- A small amount of carrot, finely diced (to taste)
- 1/4 green bell pepper, finely diced (or paprika)
Seasoning & Flavor- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- A pinch of black pepper
- A pinch of sesame seeds
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- A pinch of black pepper
- A pinch of sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s start by preparing the vegetables, which are key to delicious fried rice. Finely dice the onion, carrot, and green bell pepper into small pieces, about 0.5cm in size. Dicing them small ensures they distribute evenly and add a pleasant texture to the rice.
Step 2
Chop the bacon into small pieces, similar in size to the diced vegetables (about 0.5cm). This ensures the bacon cooks evenly and blends well with the rice when stir-fried.
Step 3
Heat a pan over medium heat and add the entire can of spicy tuna, including the oil. Stir-fry lightly for about 1 minute until the tuna’s own oil starts to render. This step helps to remove any fishy smell and enhances the tuna’s flavor.
Step 4
Add the diced vegetables (onion, carrot, green bell pepper) and chopped bacon to the pan with the tuna. Stir-fry together over medium heat for about 1-2 minutes, until the vegetables become translucent and the bacon is lightly browned. The vegetables will release their natural sweetness, adding depth to the fried rice.
Step 5
Push the cooked ingredients to one side of the pan, creating an empty space. Pour 1 Tbsp of soy sauce into the empty space. Let it bubble and slightly caramelize for a moment. Then, mix it with the other ingredients. This technique, often called ‘caramelizing’ the soy sauce, adds a wonderful smoky aroma and deep umami flavor to the fried rice. (Tip: Letting the soy sauce sizzle and slightly brown in the pan before mixing can create an even richer flavor!)
Step 6
Add the warm cooked rice to the pan. Using a spatula, break up any clumps of rice and stir-fry everything together, ensuring the rice is evenly coated with the ingredients and seasonings. Continue stir-frying for about 2-3 minutes until the rice is heated through and well combined.
Step 7
Just before turning off the heat, drizzle in 1 Tbsp of sesame oil. Add a pinch of black pepper according to your preference, and sprinkle with sesame seeds for a final touch. Adding sesame oil at the end preserves its fragrant aroma.
Step 8
Your delicious Spicy Tuna Fried Rice is ready! Serve it generously and enjoy. It’s even better when paired with kimchi or a fried egg on the side. ^^~
