Spicy & Tangy! Super Easy Homemade Tomato Salsa Sauce
The Perfect Nacho Companion: A Simple 5-Minute Tomato Salsa Recipe
After a trip to the countryside and a stop at the supermarket, I bought some nachos and nacho cheese, something I haven’t had in a while! They tasted so delicious. I used to eat a lot of popcorn and nachos with cheese at the movie theater back in the day. Suddenly, I remembered how good a spicy salsa sauce tastes, and with tomatoes in my fridge, I quickly whipped up this recipe!
Ingredients- 2 ripe tomatoes
- 1/2 medium onion
- 1 Korean chili pepper (or adjust to your spice preference)
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice or vinegar
- A pinch of freshly ground black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Core the 2 ripe tomatoes and wash them thoroughly, skins on. Then, finely dice them into approximately 0.5cm pieces. Dicing them small ensures a better texture for the salsa.
Step 2
Peel and finely dice the 1/2 medium onion, also to about 0.5cm pieces. If you find raw onion too pungent, you can soak the diced onion in cold water for about 5 minutes, then drain thoroughly. This will make it much milder.
Step 3
Remove the seeds from the Korean chili pepper and mince it very finely. If you enjoy a spicier kick, feel free to include the seeds. Combine the diced tomatoes, diced onion, and minced chili pepper in a bowl and mix gently.
Step 4
Now it’s time to add the seasonings to enhance the flavor. Add 1 Tbsp of sugar to balance the tangy notes, and 1/2 tsp of salt to season it properly. Stir in 1 Tbsp of fresh lemon juice or vinegar for a bright, zesty flavor, and a pinch of freshly ground black pepper to add aroma.
Step 5
Stir everything together until well combined. Letting the salsa sit for about 5 minutes allows the flavors to meld beautifully. Serve with warm tortilla chips or grilled tortillas for a delightful snack!
