Key Ingredients- 1 Onion
- 1 packet of “3-Minute Jjajang” (instant black bean paste)
- 1 packet of Buldak Bokkeum Myun (spicy chicken ramen) or Buldak sauce
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Finely julienne half of the onion. This will add a pleasant texture and sweetness to the jjajang.
Step 2
Dice the remaining half of the onion into roughly 1cm cubes. These diced pieces will soften and become wonderfully tender as they cook.
Step 3
Prepare the “3-Minute Jjajang” by heating it according to the package instructions, either by immersing it in hot water or microwaving it. Warming it up helps to enhance its rich flavor.
Step 4
Boil the Buldak Bokkeum Myun noodles or any other noodles you have on hand according to their package directions. Rinse them under cold water and drain well to prevent sticking.
Step 5
Heat a little cooking oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Add the diced onions and stir-fry until they become translucent and start to turn golden brown. This process caramelizes the onions, bringing out their sweetness and depth of flavor. Be careful not to burn them.
Step 6
Once the diced onions are well-cooked, add the julienned onions to the pan and sauté briefly. Then, stir in the prepared “3-Minute Jjajang” and the Buldak Bokkeum Myun sauce (or Buldak sauce). Mix everything thoroughly. Adjust the amount of Buldak sauce to your preference for spiciness.
Step 7
Serve the delicious spicy and sweet Szechuan-style Jjajang generously over the warmed noodles. For an extra touch, consider adding a boiled egg or shredded cucumber on top!
