Spicy & Sweet Stir-Fried Squid: The Ultimate Golden Recipe

Here’s a post for a delicious stir-fried squid recipe using squid! This dish is perfect for when you need a flavorful meal.

Recipe Info

  • Category : Main dish
  • Ingredient Category : Seafood
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Stir-fry
  • Servings : 3 servings
  • Difficulty : Beginner

Main Ingredients

  • 2 Squids
  • 2 Onions
  • 1 Hand-span length of Green Onion

Seasoning Mix

  • 1 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili powder)
  • 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 1/2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 Tbsp Olive Oil (or vegetable oil)
  • 1 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds
  • 1/3 Tbsp Doenjang (fermented soybean paste)
  • 3 Pinches of Black Pepper (adjust to taste)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the squid by cleaning it thoroughly (remove the innards and backbone, then cut into bite-sized pieces). After preparing the squid, add all seasoning ingredients except the sesame seeds to a preheated pan.

Step 1

Step 2

Stir-fry the seasoning mixture over medium heat until fragrant. (If you have chopped green onions or scallions, you can add them here to enhance the aroma.)

Step 2

Step 3

Once the seasoning is nicely sautéed, add the prepared squid. Cut the squid into bite-sized pieces (usually round or bite-sized). Slice the onions thinly. (I used a mix of regular and red onions for color.)

Step 3

Step 4

Add the squid and sliced onions to the sautéed seasoning and stir-fry together. (You can add other vegetables like cabbage, bell peppers, paprika, or carrots according to your preference for a richer dish. Vegetables that take longer to cook should be added slightly earlier than the squid.)

Step 4

Step 5

When the onions and squid are cooked to your liking, sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds. (Onions release moisture, so water is usually not needed. However, if the sauce becomes too thick, add a little water, broth, or rice water to achieve your desired consistency.)

Step 5

Step 6

Your delicious stir-fried squid is now ready! Enjoy it as is, or reduce the sauce further to serve over rice, or mix with boiled somen noodles for a fantastic meal. Enjoy your meal with this spicy and sweet stir-fried squid!
