Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Begin by preparing all your ingredients. Cut the pork into bite-sized pieces (about 2-3 cm). Wash and chop the vegetables into similar sizes for an appealing presentation.

Step 2

Season the pork with salt, pepper, and rice wine. Gently mix and let it marinate for about 10 minutes. This step helps tenderize the meat and remove any porky odors. Next, combine the pork with all the marinade ingredients: soy sauce, gochujang, gochugaru, plum extract, and minced garlic. Mix well, ensuring the pork is thoroughly coated. Let it marinate for at least another 10 minutes for the flavors to meld deeply.

Step 3

Slice the onions and carrots into rectangular shapes, similar in size to the pork pieces. Cut the green onions into large segments. Slice the Korean green chilies and red chilies diagonally. Cutting the vegetables into uniform sizes makes them easier to eat with the pork and enhances the dish’s visual appeal.

Step 4

In a deep skillet or wok, place the sliced onions at the bottom. Layer the marinated pork on top of the onions, followed by the sliced carrots. Cover the pan and cook over medium-low heat for about 20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the pork to cook gently. After 20 minutes, open the lid, stir everything together to ensure even cooking, and then cover again to cook for another 5 minutes. Finally, add the green onions and chili peppers and gently mix them in.

Step 5

Cover the pan one last time and let it simmer for an additional 5 minutes. This final step ensures the vegetables are perfectly tender and the pork is succulent, completing your delicious Jumulleok.

Step 6

Transfer the finished Jumulleok to a serving platter. Sprinkle generously with toasted sesame seeds for an extra nutty flavor and appealing finish. Serve hot with steamed rice and enjoy this wonderful homemade dish!
