Incredibly Easy and Delicious Stir-Fried Onions
Is this recipe too simple? It’s almost unbelievably easy! Introducing the super simple stir-fried onions side dish that’s perfect for any meal. Minimal effort, maximum flavor!
Ingredients- 2 onions (medium-sized)
- 1 Tbsp perilla oil
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- A pinch of toasted sesame seeds
- A little chopped green onion (for garnish)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash and peel the 2 onions. Slice them into thick strips, about 0.5 cm thick. Cutting them slightly thicker than usual helps maintain a pleasant texture after stir-frying, preventing them from becoming too mushy.
Step 2
In a small bowl, combine all the sauce ingredients. Mix 3 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp sugar, 1 Tbsp gochugaru, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp sesame oil, and a pinch of toasted sesame seeds. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved to create the seasoning sauce. You can add the sesame seeds now or save them for garnish later.
Step 3
Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add 1 Tbsp of perilla oil. Add all the sliced onions and stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until the onions become translucent and fragrant. Stir occasionally to prevent them from burning.
Step 4
Once the onions are softened and look transparent, pour in the prepared seasoning sauce. Continue to stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the sauce to coat the onions evenly. The sauce will thicken slightly, giving the onions a delicious sheen.
Step 5
Taste the stir-fry and adjust the seasoning if needed by adding a little more soy sauce or sugar, according to your preference. Finally, sprinkle the chopped green onions over the top and give it a quick toss to finish. This simple addition adds a fresh, savory note. Chives can be used as a substitute for green onions for a different aromatic flavor.
Step 6
These freshly stir-fried onions have a wonderfully satisfying bite and are infused with a perfectly balanced spicy, sweet, and savory sauce. They are fantastic served hot over a bowl of rice, creating a simple yet delicious onion over rice dish!
Step 7
Alternatively, they make an excellent topping for bibimbap (Korean mixed rice). With just some leftover rice, gochujang (Korean chili paste), sesame oil, and these stir-fried onions, you can quickly assemble a delightful bibimbap.
Step 8
A simple onion transforms into a delicious and satisfying side dish. Enjoy this easy yet flavorful stir-fried onion recipe, and have a wonderful and fulfilling meal! Happy cooking!
