Spicy, Sweet & Savory Pork Belly Kimchi Cheese Fry
Easy Recipe for Delicious Pork Belly Kimchi Cheese Fry
While pork belly is delicious on its own, enjoying it in various ways makes it even better! This time, we’ve created a ‘Pork Belly Kimchi Cheese Fry’ using pork belly and kimchi. Honestly, you won’t need anything else – this dish alone is filling and incredibly tasty. It feels like it would be a great pairing with makgeolli, doesn’t it?ㅋㅋ The harmony of flavors is so good, I’m definitely making this again soon~^^
Ingredients
- 2 strips Pork Belly (about 200-250g)
- 2-3 strips well-fermented Kimchi (or about 1 cup)
- 2 Eggs
- 1 handful Pizza Cheese (about 50-70g)
- A little chopped green onion or scallion (for garnish)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, cut the 2 strips of pork belly into bite-sized pieces (about 2-3 cm). Place the pork belly in the center of a preheated frying pan and lightly grill both sides until enough pork belly fat is rendered. Once the fat starts to render, add the 2-3 strips of kimchi alongside the pork belly and grill both sides until the kimchi is lightly cooked.
Step 2
Once the pork belly is nicely browned and the kimchi is somewhat cooked, sprinkle herb salt on both sides of the pork belly for seasoning. Arrange the cooked kimchi on top of the pork belly. This way, the spicy flavor of the kimchi will infuse into the pork belly, making it even more delicious.
Step 3
Evenly sprinkle 1 Tbsp of sugar over the kimchi to balance the sourness and add sweetness. Next, sprinkle 1 Tbsp of gochugaru for a spicy kick, followed by 1 Tbsp of flour and 1 Tbsp of breadcrumbs. The flour and breadcrumbs act as a binder to help the eggs stay in place and prevent them from running onto the pan.
Step 4
Now, carefully crack 2 eggs into the center, over the kimchi and pork belly mixture. Gently spread the yolks so they cover a wider area without breaking. Lowering the heat slightly before adding the eggs helps them cook gently without burning.
Step 5
Generously sprinkle 1 handful of pizza cheese over the eggs and kimchi mixture. Add a little chopped green onion or scallion as a garnish. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan with a lid, and cook until the cheese is fully melted and the eggs are cooked to your liking, about 3-5 minutes.
Step 6
Transfer the beautifully cooked Pork Belly Kimchi Cheese Fry to a plate, cutting it into easy-to-eat portions. Enjoy the perfect blend of spicy, sweet, and savory flavors while it’s warm! It’s perfect as a side dish or a delicious appetizer.
