  • Gochujang (Korean chili paste) 2 Tbsp

  • Soup soy sauce 1 Tbsp
  • Anchovy sauce 1 Tbsp
  • Sugar 1 Tbsp
  • Corn syrup 2 Tbsp
  • Black pepper, a pinch

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s prepare the seasoning mix that will determine the flavor of our red fish cake soup. In a bowl, combine 2 Tbsp Gochujang, 1 Tbsp Gochugaru, 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp soup soy sauce, 1 Tbsp anchovy sauce, 1 Tbsp sugar, 2 Tbsp corn syrup, and finally a pinch of black pepper. Mix them thoroughly. Your golden ratio seasoning mix is ready!

Step 1

Step 2

Now it’s time to prepare the main ingredients. Cut the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces, which is usually a good size for soup. Also, slice the green onion thinly. This will add a refreshing taste and aroma to the soup.

Step 2

Step 3

Pour 800ml of anchovy-kelp broth into a pot. Add all the prepared spicy seasoning mix. Stir well to dissolve the seasoning into the broth.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the broth starts to boil vigorously, add the sliced fish cakes. Gently stir with a spatula to ensure the seasoning coats the fish cakes evenly. The fish cakes will absorb the seasoning, adding a delicious depth of flavor.

Step 4

Step 5

After the fish cakes have cooked a bit, add the whole boiled eggs. Let them simmer together so the eggs can soak up the flavorful broth. This step allows the seasoning to penetrate deeper into both the fish cakes and the eggs.

Step 5

Step 6

Finally, add the sliced green onions and reduce the heat to medium-low. Let it simmer for a little longer. This will complete your delicious red fish cake soup, with a wonderful broth that warms you from the inside out. It’s perfect as a side dish for rice or as a tasty snack with drinks!
