  • Ingredient Category : Flour / Wheat
  • Occasion : Snack
  • Cooking : Boil / Simmer
  • Servings : 3 servings
  • Difficulty : Beginner

Main Ingredients

  • 300g Tteokbokki rice cakes (choose between rice or wheat cakes, as you prefer)
  • 1 packet Ramen noodles (including the dried vegetable packet)
  • 5 sheets Fish cakes (cut into bite-sized pieces)
  • 1.5 stalks Green onions (chopped)
  • 2 Hard-boiled eggs (for garnish)
  • 1/2 Tbsp Salt (for boiling eggs)

Spicy & Sweet Sauce

  • 1 packet Ramen dried vegetable mix (adds depth to the broth)
  • 1 packet Ramen powder soup base (for umami!)
  • 2 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste – the base of spiciness)
  • 3 Tbsp Sugar (balances the heat with sweetness)
  • 2 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes – for deeper spiciness and color)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, fill a pot with plenty of water. Add the eggs and 1/2 tablespoon of salt, then boil them until hard-boiled. You can check if they’re cooked by piercing them with a chopstick.

Step 1

Step 2

Once the eggs are boiled, immediately place them in cold water for about 5 minutes to cool. This makes peeling the shells much easier! Carefully peel the cooled eggs and set them aside.

Step 2

Step 3

Now, let’s make the heart of the Rabokki: the sauce! Pour 1.1 liters (about 5-6 standard cups) of water into a pot. Add the ramen dried vegetable mix, powder soup base, 2 tablespoons of gochujang, 3 tablespoons of sugar, and 2 tablespoons of gochugaru. Stir well to dissolve the sauce ingredients. Bring the mixture to a boil, ensuring no clumps form.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the water starts boiling vigorously, add the tteokbokki rice cakes and cook for about 5 minutes until they soften. When the rice cakes are tender, add the prepared hard-boiled eggs, ramen noodles, and chopped green onions. Reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer, allowing the ramen to loosen and the flavors to meld into the sauce.

Step 4

Step 5

As the sauce thickens and the ramen noodles begin to soften and separate, add the fish cakes cut into bite-sized pieces. Continue to cook for another 1-2 minutes until the fish cakes absorb the delicious sauce. Be careful not to overcook, as the fish cakes can become tough.

Step 5

Step 6

Voilà! Your mouthwatering Rabokki is ready. For an extra treat, consider adding cheese or a sprinkle of seaweed flakes to your liking. Enjoy it piping hot for the best flavor!
