Spicy & Sweet Grilled Eel with Gochujang Sauce Recipe
The Ultimate Revitalizing Dish: Grilled Eel with Gochujang Marinade
Feeling drained and losing your appetite due to the heat? This spicy and sweet grilled eel with gochujang sauce is the perfect dish to awaken your taste buds and provide a much-needed energy boost! It’s an exquisite dish for special occasions or to nourish your family’s health.
Main Ingredients- 4 pieces of cleaned freshwater eel (approx. 1kg)
- A pinch of sesame seeds (for garnish)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the 4 cleaned freshwater eels. Rinse them thoroughly under running water to remove any fishy odor, and then pat them completely dry with paper towels. Leaving moisture on the eels can cause oil splattering when grilling.
Step 2
In a bowl, combine all the marinade ingredients: gochujang, minced garlic, minced ginger, oligodang, soy sauce, mirin, and maesilcheong. Mix well until there are no lumps to create a harmonious sauce. You can substitute oligodang with mulyeot if desired.
Step 3
Prepare a medium-sized pan and heat it over low heat. Lightly coat the pan with cooking oil. Be careful not to use too much oil, as it can make the eel greasy. Arrange the dried eel pieces evenly in the heated pan.
Step 4
Adjust the heat to medium-low and cook the eel. Grill for about 3-4 minutes, until the surface of the eel turns white and begins to cook. It’s important to cook it gently without burning.
Step 5
Once the eel starts to turn golden brown, generously brush the pre-made marinade evenly over the top side of the eel using a spoon. Ensure the marinade coats the entire surface.
Step 6
Flip the eel over and brush the marinade evenly on the other side as well. After applying the marinade, reduce the heat to low and continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes, being careful not to burn the sauce. Covering the pan can help steam the eel and keep it moist inside.
Step 7
Cut the well-grilled eel into bite-sized pieces (about 3-4 cm). Arrange them attractively on a serving plate and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds for a final touch. Your revitalizing spicy and sweet grilled eel with gochujang sauce is now ready! Enjoy it with a bowl of hot rice for an even more delicious experience.
