Main Ingredients

  • 11 sheets of flat fish cakes
  • 1.5 onions
  • 2 Cheongyang peppers
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic

Soy Sauce Seasoning

  • 5-6 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp corn syrup

Gochujang Seasoning

  • 1/2 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 2 Tbsp corn syrup
  • 1 Tbsp water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, cut the fish cakes into long, bite-sized pieces. Slice the onion into similar-length strips. Cutting the ingredients into similar sizes helps them cook evenly, resulting in a more delicious stir-fry.

Step 1

Step 2

Heat 1-2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant. Sautéing the garlic first will deepen its flavor significantly.

Step 2

Step 3

When the garlic starts to turn a light brown color, add the sliced onions and fish cakes to the pan. Increase the heat to high and stir-fry quickly. Cooking over high heat helps maintain the chewy texture of the fish cakes.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the onions become translucent and slightly softened, add the chopped Cheongyang peppers and stir-fry together. The spicy aroma that rises will make it look incredibly appetizing!

Step 4

Step 5

After all ingredients are well combined, pour the soy sauce along the edges of the pan. This allows the soy sauce to caramelize slightly, adding a richer flavor.

Step 5

Step 6

Quickly mix everything to ensure the soy sauce coats the fish cakes and vegetables evenly. Once the mixture is lightly sautéed, add 2 tablespoons of corn syrup for shine and to balance the sweetness. Set aside half of this stir-fried fish cake in an airtight container. This is your basic soy sauce fish cake stir-fry!

Step 6

Step 7

Soy sauce fish cake stir-fry is complete! It’s a simple yet excellent side dish. Plate it nicely and enjoy.

Step 7

Step 8

Now, let’s make the gochujang fish cake stir-fry. In a small bowl, combine 1/2 tablespoon of gochujang and 1 tablespoon of water. Mix well until the paste is dissolved and lump-free. Diluting the gochujang this way helps it penetrate the ingredients better.

Step 8

Step 9

Add the diluted gochujang mixture to the remaining half of the fish cake stir-fry in the pan. Stir-fry over medium heat until well combined. Be careful not to burn the sauce. Finally, add another 2 tablespoons of corn syrup to enhance the shine and complete the spicy-sweet flavor.

Step 9

Step 10

Spicy and sweet gochujang fish cake stir-fry is done! This visually appealing dish is perfect for enjoying with a bowl of rice. Enjoy your delicious meal!
