This is a fantastic, cost-effective side dish that will keep you satisfied for a while, appealing to both kids and adults.
Main Ingredients
- 5 sheets of square fish cakes (Eomuk)
- 1 onion
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, rinse the fish cakes under cold water or briefly pour hot water over them to remove any excess oil. This makes the flavor cleaner and more delicate. Once drained, cut them into bite-sized pieces, about 2-3 cm wide.
Step 2
Thinly slice the onion. Adding onions will bring out a natural sweetness that harmonizes beautifully with the spicy sauce. Feel free to add shredded carrots or green onions if you like.
Step 3
In a small bowl, combine 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp gochugaru, 1 Tbsp sugar, and 2 Tbsp corn syrup. Mix well until there are no lumps to create your sauce base. Using plenty of syrup will give the dish a lovely sheen and enhance its flavor.
Step 4
Add 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp oyster sauce, and 1 Tbsp cooking wine to the bowl. Stir again until all the seasonings are well combined. A pinch of black pepper will also boost the aroma.
Step 5
Heat 1 Tbsp of chili oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Add all the prepared sauce mixture and let it simmer. Once the sauce starts to bubble, reduce the heat to low and stir constantly for about 1 minute to prevent burning.
Step 6
When the sauce has simmered slightly, add the sliced onions and fish cakes to the pan. Increase the heat to high and stir-fry quickly for about 2-3 minutes, ensuring the sauce coats everything evenly. Finally, stir in 1 Tbsp of sesame oil and 1 Tbsp of toasted sesame seeds for a final mix. Your delicious Gochujang Fish Cake Stir-Fry is ready!
