  • Dried shredded squid (Jinmichae) 200g
  • Mayonnaise 3 Tbsp
  • Water 1/2 cup (standard paper cup)
  • Sesame oil 1 Tbsp
  • Sesame seeds a pinch

Today, we’ll be making the ultimate homestyle side dish: a delicious spicy and sweet Gochujang Dried Shredded Squid Stir-fry. It’s a real appetite booster!

First, prepare 200g of dried shredded squid. Cut the squid into bite-sized pieces, about 5cm long. If they’re too long, they can be difficult to eat. Place the cut squid in a bowl and add 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise. Gently mix with your hands until evenly coated. The mayonnaise helps to soften the squid and makes the seasoning adhere better.

Now, let’s make the sauce. In a small pot or pan, add 1/2 cup of water. Then, add 2 tablespoons of gochujang, 1 tablespoon of gochugaru, 1.5 tablespoons of oligodang, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to medium-low heat and simmer for 2-3 minutes. Cook until the sugar is dissolved and the sauce thickens slightly.

Once the sauce is boiling, add the mayonnaise-coated dried shredded squid to the pan. Stir-fry over low heat, tossing quickly to coat the squid evenly with the sauce. Be careful not to overcook, as the squid can become tough. As soon as the squid is well-coated with the sauce, turn off the heat. The residual heat will finish cooking it gently.

Finally, drizzle in 1 tablespoon of sesame oil and sprinkle with a pinch of sesame seeds. Your delicious, glossy Gochujang Dried Shredded Squid Stir-fry is ready! Enjoy it with a warm bowl of rice.
