Main Ingredients
- 150g wide, rectangular fish cakes (approx. 3 sheets)
- 1/4 onion
- 20g carrot
- Chopped green onion (scallion)
Seasoning Ingredients
- 1/2 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes)
- 1.5 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 Tbsp sugar
- 1/2 Tbsp corn syrup (or rice syrup)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic (from 1 medium-sized clove)
- 1/2 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes)
- 1.5 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 Tbsp sugar
- 1/2 Tbsp corn syrup (or rice syrup)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic (from 1 medium-sized clove)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, in a small bowl, combine all the seasoning ingredients: gochugaru, soy sauce, sugar, corn syrup, and minced garlic. Mix them well until the sugar dissolves to create your seasoning sauce. Preparing the sauce in advance makes stir-frying much easier.
Step 2
Cut the wide, rectangular fish cakes into bite-sized pieces, approximately 4-5cm wide and 3-4cm long rectangles. Cutting them too small might cause them to break apart during stir-frying, so aim for a suitable size.
Step 3
Slice the onion and carrot into strips that are similar in length to the cut fish cakes. Ensuring similar thickness for the vegetables will help them cook evenly, resulting in a more uniformly delicious stir-fry.
Step 4
Heat 1-2 Tbsp of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the cut fish cakes, onion, and carrot. Stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes, until the onions become translucent and the carrots are slightly tender.
Step 5
Once the vegetables are somewhat cooked, pour the prepared seasoning sauce into the pan. Gently mix everything together with a spatula, stir-frying like braising (simmering) until the sauce evenly coats the ingredients and thickens slightly. Continue cooking over medium-low heat for another 2-3 minutes, ensuring the sauce doesn’t stick to the pan.
Step 6
Just before turning off the heat, sprinkle in a pinch of black pepper, add the chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds, then drizzle with sesame oil for added aroma. Give it a final gentle toss to combine everything well. Your delicious spicy and sweet fish cake stir-fry is now ready!
