Main Ingredients- 2 sheets of square fish cakes (or long fish cakes)
- 1/2 stalk of green onion (approx. 50g)
- 1/2 medium onion (approx. 100g)
- 2 Korean chili peppers (optional, for adjustable spiciness)
Seasoning- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 Tbsp tuna extract (or a little regular soy sauce or fish sauce if unavailable)
- 1/2 Tbsp red pepper flakes (for color and mild heat)
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp oligosaccharide (or corn syrup, sugar)
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 Tbsp tuna extract (or a little regular soy sauce or fish sauce if unavailable)
- 1/2 Tbsp red pepper flakes (for color and mild heat)
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp oligosaccharide (or corn syrup, sugar)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, briefly rinse the fish cakes in lukewarm water to soften them and remove any impurities. Squeeze out excess water, then cut them into bite-sized pieces, about 1.5cm wide. If you are using curly fish cakes, you can leave them as they are.
Step 2
Thinly slice the onion and cut the green onion diagonally. If using Korean chili peppers, slice them thinly. Place the prepared fish cakes in a wide pan. Arrange the sliced onion, green onion, and chili peppers attractively on top of the fish cakes.
Step 3
Pour 2 tablespoons of soy sauce around the edges of the pan. (Some recipes include canola oil, but we’ll rely on the natural oils from the fish cakes here.) Stir-fry over medium heat for about 1-2 minutes, allowing the ingredients to mingle and the soy sauce to lightly coat them.
Step 4
Now, add the remaining seasoning ingredients: 1/2 tablespoon of minced garlic, 1/2 tablespoon of red pepper flakes, and 1 tablespoon of oligosaccharide for sweetness.
Step 5
Reduce the heat to medium-low. Gently stir and toss the ingredients with a spatula or chopsticks to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed and coats the fish cakes well. Continue to stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce clings to the fish cakes. Be careful not to overcook, as this can make the fish cakes tough.
Step 6
Transfer the deliciously stir-fried Eomuk Bokkeum to a serving plate. Your flavorful and satisfying Korean fish cake stir-fry is ready to be enjoyed with a bowl of warm rice!
