Main Ingredients- 1 pack fish cakes (eomuk) (approx. 240g)
- 1/3 carrot (approx. 65g)
- 1/2 onion (approx. 65g)
- A little green onion (approx. 0.5 Tbsp)
- 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the fish cakes. Cut each fish cake in half lengthwise, then slice them into pieces about 1.3cm to 2cm thick. Slicing them not too thinly ensures a nice chewy texture.
Step 2
Prepare the vegetables. Finely chop the green onion. Julienne the carrot and onion into thin strips, about 3mm thick. Have your minced garlic ready.
Step 3
Heat a frying pan and add the sliced fish cakes along with 3 Tbsp of olive oil. Stir-fry over medium heat for about 1 minute until the fish cakes are coated with oil. This helps prevent them from sticking to the pan.
Step 4
After lightly stir-frying the fish cakes, add the julienned carrots, onions, and minced garlic to the pan and stir-fry them together.
Step 5
Now it’s time to add the seasonings. Start by adding 2.5 Tbsp of soy sauce.
Step 6
Add 2.5 Tbsp of oligosaccharide for sweetness. You can substitute this with corn syrup or sugar if preferred.
Step 7
Add 0.5 Tbsp of gochugaru for a spicy kick. If you prefer more heat, you can increase this to 0.7 Tbsp, or even a bit more if you like it extra spicy.
Step 8
Stir-fry everything together, ensuring the vegetables remain crisp-tender. Mix quickly so the seasoning coats the fish cakes and vegetables evenly. Be mindful of the heat to prevent burning.
Step 9
Taste the dish as you cook and adjust the seasoning. If it’s too bland, add more soy sauce. If it’s not sweet enough, add more oligosaccharide. For a spicier flavor, you can add a little more gochugaru at this stage.
Step 10
Add the chopped green onions and stir briefly. Turn off the heat. The refreshing flavor of the green onions will enhance the dish.
Step 11
Finally, drizzle in 1 Tbsp of sesame oil for a nutty aroma and stir to combine.
Step 12
Sprinkle some sesame seeds over the finished spicy fish cakes for a final touch. Your delicious and visually appealing Spicy Stir-Fried Fish Cakes are now ready to be enjoyed as a fantastic side dish!
