- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp red pepper flakes (gochugaru)
- 1 tsp corn syrup (oligosaccharide)
- A pinch of sesame seeds
- 1/3 cup water
- Cooking oil, as needed
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
We’re going to make a delicious spicy and sweet soy sauce braised fish cake. If you like a bit more heat, you can add chopped Cheongyang peppers for an extra kick. First, prepare your ingredients like fish cakes, onion, and green onion.
Step 2
Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over low heat. Add the chopped green onions and slowly stir-fry until the oil is fragrant with green onion essence. Once the aroma develops, add the fish cakes cut into bite-sized pieces and the thinly sliced onion. Increase the heat to medium and stir-fry them together.
Step 3
When the fish cakes become tender and the onions turn translucent, add all the seasoning ingredients. Mix in 1 tsp soy sauce, 1 tsp red pepper flakes, 1 tsp corn syrup, and a pinch of sesame seeds. Stir and cook, ensuring the sauce evenly coats the fish cakes and vegetables. As the sauce begins to thicken slightly, pour in 1/3 cup of water.
Step 4
Finally, continue to cook until most of the water has evaporated and you’re left with a slightly glossy sauce coating the fish cakes. This completes your delicious spicy soy sauce braised fish cakes. Enjoy them warm with rice or let them cool down to pack as a lunchbox side dish.
